EAGE/DGMK H2 storage workshop: a resumee

29.04.2019

Gesteinslabor presents its ideas about reservoir material fatigue at the well attended event

H2 storage seems to have a bright future

About seventy attendees joined the EAGE/DGMK workshop "Underground Storage of Hydrogen" which took place on 24/04/2019 in Celle just one day before the traditional DGMK Spring Meeting. The high number of participants underlined the importance of the topic - in particular in these times which are characterised by the keyword "energy transition".

Most of the eleven lecturers were quite positive about the chances of the storage of hydrogen, but also methane, as a product of "power to gas" processes which will allow to turn wind and solar energy from intermittent to base load capable energy carriers and make them the backbone of energy transition. Topics covered reached from a general outlook of the necessary infrastructure via the material needs for hydrogen storage to microbial processes at depth. And also Gesteinslabor shared its thoughts about material fatigue of reservoir and caprock of porous underground gas storages with the audience. Two days later we presented these ideas also to the DGMK community. If you are interested in the findings of Gesteinslabor within the SUBI research project network, please have a look at the extended abstract of the DGMK presentation.
