The basic precondition for a standards-compliant strength examination is exact manufacturing of the specimen body. What is important above all is the right-angularity of the end surfaces of the specimen to the specimen axis as well as the parallelism of the end surfaces.
In the Gesteinslabor Dr. Eberhard Jahns, this task is taken care of by a customised abrasive cutting-off machine with frequency-controlled automatic feeding. Specially developed clamping devices facilitate exactly plane-parallel cutting steps without the specimen having to be released from the clamps. The constructionally closed system allows, if required, the execution of dry cuts without any problems, to avoid interaction between the rock material and the cooling fluid.
